The decomposed body of Customs Inspector Narayan Barman was recovered from the Upper Line area under Birpara police station in Alipurduar district, West Bengal. He had been missing for two days. Police reached the spot after receiving information about an unidentified body and later confirmed the identity based on verification by family members.
According to his relative Ajit Roy, the family was informed on Saturday that Narayan Barman was missing. They went to Birpara and lodged a missing persons diary at the police station, though a similar report had already been filed by the department. On Monday, after being informed about the discovery of a body, the family identified it as Barman’s. The body was in a decomposed state.
Ajit Roy said, “Even if he had drowned, the body would have been swept away by floodwaters by now. This raises suspicion. We want the police to carry out a proper investigation.” Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and initiated a case to determine the cause of death.
